From the 6th until the 26th of December the European Union Film Festival (EUFF) will be held in Malaysia. During the festival a total of 20 different films from European Union 16 countries will be shown at various Golden Screen Cinemas in Kuala Lumpur and Penang. The Dutch entry for the EUFF is the film "Nynke":
Pieter Jelles Troelstra soon becomes caught up in the socialist movement. But after the birth of her son, she becomes isolated and has a nervous breakdown. The first professor of psychiatry in Holland, advises her to abandon her ambitions. Her role in life, her destiny, is motherhood.
At first she courageously accepts his advice and does everything she can to be a good mother and a mainstay for her 'militant' husband. But this self-sacrificing attitude avenges itself. The more she tries, the more she becomes alienated from herself.
After leaving Pieter Jelles, the love of her life, Sjoukje was able to improve her talent as a writer. She wrotes numerous stories for children. After 20 years of writing and travelling, Sjoukje returned to Holland. All her admirers called her 'mem', the Friesian word for mother.
Sjoukje Bokma - de Boer died when she was 79 years old, ten years after Pieter Jelles Troelstra.
