Visit to Malaysia of Netherlands Minister of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment

On the invitation of YB Datuk Peter Chin Fah Kui, Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, the Netherlands Minister of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment, Ms. Jacqueline Cramer, will visit Malaysia on 10 – 11 December. 

This visit follows a visit by Minister Chin to the Netherlands in June 2007. Special focus will be given to sustainable palm oil production and sustainable timber production. In this connection Minister Cramer will visit the Golden Hope Plantation at CareyIsland, where she will be briefed by Sime Plantation Sdn. Bhd., by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board and by the Malaysian Palm Oil Association. She will also visit the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), where she will be briefed by the Forestry Department Peninsular Malaysia and by the Malaysian Timber Certification Council.

Minister Jacqueline Cramer (born 1951 in Amsterdam) was previously professor of sustainable entrepreneurship at the UtrechtUniversity and professor of sustainable management at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. She is Minister of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment since 22 February 2007.

The Netherlands has a World Summit for Sustainable Development (WSSD) partnership agreement with Malaysia and Indonesia on palm oil. It also has a long standing co-operation with Malaysia in forestry and supports the European Commission in realising a Voluntary Partnership Agreement with Malaysia on Forest Law Enforcement Governance and Trade (FLEGT).

The visit of the Minister of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment is one of the events in conjunction with the celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relations between the Netherlands and Malaysia. A series of activities are organised with as tagline: ‘Holland, More Than Tulips, Holland – Malaysia 2007’.
