A) Airport Transit VisaYou must apply for this visa at the Embassy of the first country of transit. The duration of any such transit through the Schengen area must be kept to the necessary minimum. For this type of visa the travelling route must lead through the Netherlands in a logical way.
To apply for this visa you need the following documents:
- A passport with a validity of at least 6 months beyond the expiration date of the visa, plus a copy of the holder’s page.
- One completed and signed visa application form to be obtained at the Embassy counter or downloaded from this website, photocopies or faxed copies of the original form will not be accepted.
- One recent passport size photograph.
- A confirmed onward airline reservation to a non-Schengen country that is your home country or to a country for which a visa has already been issued. If no visa is required for the destination country, the reason for travelling needs to be substantiated, for example by an invitation letter. Once the visa has been approved the airline ticket should be purchased and shown at the Embassy before the visa will be issued in the passport.
General Information
The above list is not comprehensive. Additional documents or proof may be requested in individual cases.
Please note that holders of a Schengen visa are still subject to immigration control upon first entry into a Schengen country and are therefore not guaranteed automatic entry, even is they hold a Schengen visa.
Other visas, e.g. for stays exceeding 90 days or for the purpose of taking up any professional activity, remain subject to the national legislation of the relevant country. They must therefore be applied for at the Embassy of the relevant country.
