Holland more than tulips

2007 is a special year indeed! Malaysia celebrates its 50th birthday. As the Netherlands immediately recognised the young nation in 1957, we will also celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands will take this opportunity to highlight the Netherlands during the whole year.

A series of events will be organised starting in January with the visit of HMS Tromp to Port Klang. Further planned activites include a Holland Film Festival, a publication of a book on the common Dutch - Malaysian history and a Dutch week in Malacca. Together with the Dutch/British company Unilever, a road show will be organised in the whole country called Moo-nderland, featuring a mini Netherlands. Air France KLM will again organise its highly successful tulip sale on the occasion of mother's day, and more can be expected.

It is my sincere hope that these and other events will contribute to the celebration of Malaysia's 50th anniversary and show that the Netherlands has a lot more to offer than tulips!

Lody Embrechts
Ambassador
